TUBE SPECIALIST PTY LTD - CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ELECTRO-GALVANISING PLANT / Job No: # 4251

DESCRIPTION

MPA's research and development team worked closely with Tube Specialist, providing the expertise necessary to assist Tube Specialist with the implementation of a control system capable of managing the complex operations of Tube Specialist's new Galvanising Plant. The automation system is controlled from one station, allowing information from the entire plant to be displayed via a single Siemens TP27 10" touch panel. This touch panel was selected because it has an easy to read display and large on screen push buttons suitable for factory conditions. Product specifications can be easily changed via program recipe selection enabling the coating of the products to be specified and varied. The finished products are ideal for high performance applications, which require coatings that are easy to weld and topcoat, and that provide good corrosion resistance. This process also offers the unique advantage of providing extremely 'even' coating. In real terms this means a quality end product with a smooth, high quality finish. The completed plant has a capacity of over 35,000 tonnes per annum.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

MPA programmed all functions of the PLC, including material transport (uncoiling, recoiling, accumulation, processing), constant-current control (PID), automated welding (using FM353), in-line slitting, recipe management and auxiliary functions (pumps, valves, etc). The completed
system is versatile enough to allow continuous processing (i.e. Galvanizing continues even when coils are changed). The TP27 Touch Screen provides complete control and monitoring of the plant. Extensive status displays allow quick and effective diagnosis of plant conditions. A second operator panel (OP7) is located near the in-line slitting head and is used for plant control during critical slitting procedures
