REDLAND SHIRE COUNCIL - CLEVELAND SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT AUGMENTATION / Job No: #4876
After submitting a competitive and appropriate engineering solution for a major Plant Upgrade at the Cleveland Sewage Treatment Plant, MPA Engineering was subcontracted by Richard Flanagan and Company to provide switchboard manufacture, PLC and CITECT SCADA supply, as well as programming and commissioning services. The project, part of the new BNR (Biological Nutrient Removal) plant, included the design, and construction of five major form 3b/form 4 switchboards. Four of which are Motor Control Centre (MCC) type switchboards, which are fed by the main switchboard (MSB). The MSB switchboard houses the power supply equipment, including auto transfer switch and general power supply for all the switchboards and distribution boards.
The project also required two Return Activated Sludge (RAS) pump station switchboards (MCC type) and three aerator MCCs. MPA selected Siemens master drive VC variable speed drives for the aerators, each with 132kW motors. Both of the clarifiers are fitted with three 22kW RAS pumps, with Siemens Micromaster 440 Drives. All variable speed drives in the system communicate with the PLCs on Profibus. The power in each MCC is monitored by Siemens SIMEAS-P power metres. Each SIMEAS-P, which also communicates via Profibus, monitor voltage, current, power, power factor and total kWh, while also detecting phase failure and power disruption. MPA was also responsible for the detailed design and implementation of the SCADA and PLC system, including the programming and installation of two S7315-2DP PLCs which control the sewage purification process. A combination of Profibus and Fibre Optic Network has been used in order to optimise the communication process, with MPA supplying all the fibre optic Optical Link Modules (OLMs) for the installation. In addition PLCs communicate with each other via MPI.
The CITECT SCADA system programmed by MPA enables operators to access all relevant plant information including database, reports, and trending displays. This system also allows operators to control all plant equipment manually from CITECT. It also enables remote access via laptop.
